Powered to Success Chapter 5: By Persistence and Determination

The beginning is the most important part of the work. Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going. Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out. Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after another! Knowledge is power but knowledge in itself is of no use unless it is directed in the pursuit of a definite goal and a detail plan for the attainment of that goal.

1. Persistence has to do with Character

There are plenty of talented but unsuccessful people. Education without attitude is like a car without petrol. 75 % of self-made millionaires never attended college; many never graduate from high school.

He fail in several attempt and at one time, five associate die on the side of the Mt.
As he walked into parliament, with picture of Mt Everest, standing ovation, tears was in his eyes not of Joy but frustration. He didn’t just go there to make a good effort. He screamed at the Mt “ you defeated me! But you won’t defeat me again! Because you have grown all that you can grow…. But I am still growing! What leis in front of you and behind you pales in comparison to what lies inside of you.

2. Determination is a habitual pattern. So is quitting.

Get into a habit of finishing whatever you start, even the mundane chores. Negative thoughts are deadly. They carry with them the same self-fulfilling prophecy as do positive thoughts.

There is a physical limit to what I can do. But within that limit of my ability, I have total freedom. The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will.

People of mediocre ability sometimes achieve outstanding success because they don’t know when to quit. Most men succeed because they are determined to. Story of the hare and the tortoise. The tortoise was determine to finish the race.

Determination is an absolute refusal to quit. Persistence is the constant and consistent refusal to quit. Never, never, never, never give up. - Winston Churchill

3. Two ingredients to success : Burning Desire and Faith

Burning desire: In the boxing ring: two evenly matched fighter. The outcome depends on which lion is hungrier.

Faith is the mental leap that enables you to achieve your desires. Faith makes it possible for us to concentrate on doing the necessary things. Faith can be develop. Eg success in show business.

4. The greatest enemy of excellence is good

Any problem is a problem when there is no purpose. But no problem is a problem when there is a purpose. Problems can stop you temporarily, but only you can stop yourself permanently. People who allows themselves to get sidetracked by problems are people who have no clear purpose in life. It is only because of problem that we grow mentally and spiritually.

Practice makes permanent, not perfect; so make sure you are persisting on the right path.
